Best Week Ever!

October 21st, 2013

Totally got your package for Halloween! Thank you so much! LOVE THE CANDY!

This week was so awesome! We had a ton of spiritual experiences! I don't have a ton of time and I forgot to bring my journal so that I could remember everything. But here are some highlights of the week:

Me and Elder Doane went on an awesome exchange! Super fun and we totally invited everyone to be baptized!

I met the first Hmong person that actually understood the Hmong word for prophet.

I got a ton of stuff done today...dry cleaning and mailed off a package to you. I have to admit that I have no clue what’s in the package.

Totally saw an adorable kitten. We started meowing at it and then we realized the member we were going to go see...was right behind us....member trust...gone. :( haha Just playing.

We had zone conference. Got super inspired by President Gelwix. We learned about internalizing the atonement.

There were tangled lanterns all over the place floating over the highway. Random.

Lots of people came to church! Makes me super happy!

This week was the bomb! Actually, it was the best week of my mission. I will fill you in on more details next week when I have my journal! I love you all super a lot a lot!

Miracle Baptism

October 14th, 2013

So first off, sorry I sent home a box of clothes. When you transfer, you can only have so much stuff and I don't want to throw stuff away and I'm super sentimental. I have another box that I left in my old area for my companion to send but it never got sent and I don't remember what was in it, but that'll be on its way soon.

Anyways, miracle baptism on Saturday. A young man that recently came to the states got baptized! He is living with his family who are members and he's been coming to church the last few weeks. Elder Rasmussen got to baptize him so it was super cool to see him baptize his first person on his mission. Also, another young man that we found when I was with Elder Dunnaway and Elder Bradford got baptized. He's super cool! He went on pioneer trek before he was a member. Talk about faith?!

The baptismal program was awesome because a newly ordained priest was able to baptize the one young man and Elder Rasmussen baptized Tou. Also Tou's family sang a musical number. Elder Doane also played a way spiritual musical number for the interlude while everyone was changing.

Highlights of the week:
Monday: Played kickball with the other missionaries.
Tuesday: Had an awesome zone training meeting. Received a ton of inspiration. Elder Doane gave training on how the atonement is critical to the gospel of Jesus Christ. For example, we CAN have faith in Jesus Christ because He has already suffered for our sins and overcome death. Also, we can repent because of the atonement. Then, because of the atonement, the conduit of heaven is open for us to make redeeming promises/covenants like baptism. Awesome!
Wednesday: Went on exchanges with Elder Xiong in my old area. It was cool to go see some people I used to teach. Also, Elder Xiong is super Hmong. We tease him too much about it!
Thursday: Went and saw Tou to prep him for his upcoming baptism. Then at the end of the lesson they wanted to feed us. So we sat down to eat with them and totally ate some delicious frog...Thai style.

Friday: Went and did the interviews for the baptisms. Then went and gave service for an investigator in the sister’s area. Got a huge blister shoveling up sod that was infested with this weird weed.
Saturday: Baptism. Miracle. Awesome. Then we went tracting and saw some potentials. Then right at the beginning of the lesson with this super nice old guy, his relatives from France came in. CRAZINESS. However, he did play this instrument called a Qeeb for all of us. Fun Stuff.
Sunday: Confirmations and Ordinations. Awesome! Had dinner with the Perez family. They're the bomb! They made delicious Hawaiian chicken.

Spiritual thought:
I had this super cool idea come to mind as I was studying today.

"It really doesn't matter that God lives, or that Jesus Christ atoned for our transgressions, or even that God calls living day prophets; unless it will have an impact on the decisions we make and the person we decide to be today!"

Basically, along the lines of: testimony without action is worthless. We have to let our knowledge of the gospel, of God, and of the Restoration have a daily change on who we are!

Anyways, I love you all very much! I hope this letter was long enough! I need to do better about being more thorough in my letter writing. Love ya!

General Conference is Amazing

October 7th, 2013

General Conference was nothing less than awesome! Gotta love it.

Dad's birthday: Congrats Dad! You're 51...if you live 'till 100 you're only 51% of the way there. That'd be awesome! Are you planning on having a midlife crisis?

Love the Benihana fail. Super sad. I have to let you know that I can't eat anything that doesn't have a little kick to it. The last time we went to Chipotle, I had to eat it with the hottest salsa but it didn't really phase me. You should learn how to make super hot stuff! :)

Also, Mama bear...you're out of a job! What the heck! I imagine the classic "I have some bad news...how bad is it?..." Men in Tights situation. How is it being out of a job...super fun right?! Now you know me and Ray's lifestyle for the first 19 years of our lives.

Piano guys is going be great! Totally say hi to Alex Boye for me!

General conference was great! Definitely watch that last session. I loved all the talks. For the Hmong translation, we just stream it at the conference center and it’s translated there. Super fun!

One of my favorite talks was Elder Dube! I loved what he said at the end, "It’s not where we've been, but where we're willing to go!" That's straight inspiration.

Highlights of the week:
-Ate boiled squirrel
-Painted my planner covers
-General Conference
-Dad's birthday! (No I didn't forget..it's written in my planner)
-Gave somebody my home cell number on accident...super random fail

Well I love you all very much! You're all the best. Totally keep me posted.

Flu Shots and Other Fresno Happenings

September 30th, 2013

Kuv sau ntawv ntev (ha ha)… [I write too long]

I don't mean to write such short letters. So sorry. It’s just that I get lazy sometimes. :( I wub you mama bear!

Tuesday: Had a great district meeting. Super spiritual! Elder Doane invited us all to write down what kind of missionary does God envision us being based off of Pres. Gelwix's criteria of "Worthy, Obedient, Committed, and Focused." We also listened to Sister Gelwix's relaxation cd. famous quote: "You are now experiencing relaxation!" Its super funny. It's Sister Gelwix narrating these mental exercises to help deal with stress with soothing music in the background.

Wednesday: We ran farther than ever. I was so dead. I ran like 5 miles super fast!

Thursday: Ran super hard again. We ran the 5 miles and I wanted to die. But then a member for dinner took us out to A-Star Buffet...like super fat. So made tons of progress and then regressed! But it tasted soo good!

Saturday: Got up early and ran and then went straight to a drive-in free flu shot! Super scary. I hate shots. But of course, they give us this statement that's talking about a nasal spray but when we pull up to the area where they are administering the vaccine...it’s all needles...super scary! Then we went and did service at this apartment complex. It was crazy. We had to basically clean up after an "eviction." Super gross. Then we ripped up all the carpets etc. Of course the apartments nearby were all just a bunch of drug addicts so it was really sketch.

Sunday: We had two investigators come to church! Way exciting! We’re working with investigators that members have helped introduce to the church and its super effective working with members. This Sunday was just overall awesome!

Monday: We played volleyball today! and Elder Davis had his birthday today...you should totally send him an email and tell him happy birthday, he would love it! I talk about mama bear all the time to everyone!

Well keep asking me questions and I will get back to you! I love you all so much!

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly Shoes...

September 23rd, 2013

I love you! I had a great week this last week.

Lots of work...disappointments and awesome stuff too! My running shoes straight up ripped down the side. However, I did get some new shoes.

We also set some new dates for baptism this week. Super excited for conference. Life is great. You will get a longer letter next week and some recordings. I love you all so much :) <3 xoxoxoxoxxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxox
